WELC School News & Events
Wayne County School District Summer School has helped catch students up in certain subjects, while also keeping the summer slide from happening. Sometimes, especially the younger students experience a "summer slide" so summer school and enrichment camps help children to be ready for the start of school in August. Each school has featured different themes or means to help build on students' educations in age appropriate ways.
There were lots of special perks at summer school and the children at Walker Early Learning Center were very appreciative of guest reader Whitney Hamilton, Academic Program Consultant from the Division of Program Standards at the Kentucky Department of Education, who shared some of the childrens’ favorite books. She was traveling to school districts in the area for the Summer Boost 2023 program, after partnering with Wayne County’s Summer Food Service Program. The traveling Lunchbox Express mobile unit is handing out free books this summer on different occasions to help children with valuable reading skills.
